Rams fall to Trojans in nonregion game

GAYLESVILLE — Gaylesville dashed Asbury’s hopes for a second straight win, beating the Rams 34-0 on Aug. 31 in a nonregion football game.

D.J. Lee of Gaylesville scored three first-quarter touchdowns, including a 45-yard fumble return. He also rushed two times for 127 yards. The shutout was Gaylesville’s first since 2011.

The Trojans’ Kaleb Whatley made 11 tackles, caused two fumbles and had one sack.

The teams combined for 11 turnovers.

Asbury finished with only 68 yards total offense. Chris Conley was the Rams’ leading rusher with 36 yards on six carries. He contributed nine tackles on defense.

Bill Nelson paced Asbury’s defense with 19 tackles and two forced fumbles.

Mason Aguilar racked up 12 tackles and forced a fumble.

Junior Jimenez-Cruz and Charlie Minton each made 11 stops, and McKinley Orr and Dante Broussard finished with nine tackles apiece.
